Step 2: Engage Church Leadership

Objective

Ensure that key church leaders are aligned and committed to the 2033 vision.

Action Plan

  • Meet with the pastoral team, ministry heads, and board members to discuss the ACTS2Movement.

  • Develop a leadership strategy that includes ongoing communication and updates for the church leaders.

  • Pray together and ask God for clarity about how your church can be part of the ACTS2Movement.

  • Equip leaders with to cast the vision and encourage involvement within the church family.

Step 2: Engage Church Leadership

Think You're Communicating? Think Again.

Good communication is critical to making a significant change take root within a church, especially in a faith community. Most pastors and church leaders understand this, but it’s often difficult to execute well. Gaining understanding and commitment to a new vision or direction within a church is both an intellectual and emotional journey. It challenges people, and as a result, church leaders often under-communicate or send inconsistent messages about the change, both of which can halt spiritual transformation efforts.

Many churches fail to communicate their vision for change as effectively as they should, often by a factor of 10. A single sermon announcing a major shift in the church’s direction is never enough, nor is a series of speeches or announcements from the senior pastor and leadership team. To understand how easily the vision for change can be lost in the noise of day-to-day church life, consider this:

The total amount of communication going to church members over three months: thousands of words or messages through various channels (sermons, bulletins, emails, etc.).

Typical communication about the change over a period of three months (the equivalent of one 30-minute sermon, a few meetings, one newsletter article, and a short group discussion) = a fraction of that total word count.

This means that the change vision has only captured a small percentage of the communication landscape.

How can you avoid this? First and most importantly, church leaders – especially pastors and senior leadership – need to “walk the talk” and become living examples of the vision they are calling the congregation to embrace. Nothing undermines communication efforts more than inconsistent actions by leadership, and nothing speaks as powerfully as a leader who backs up their words with behavior. When the entire leadership team begins to live out the vision they are preaching, it sends a powerful message to the congregation. These actions inspire trust, motivate the church body, and diminish doubts.

On a practical level, the vision for change must be communicated in every part of church life—through each sermon, Bible study, meeting, email, and conversation. The vision must be referred to consistently, not only from the pulpit but also in emails, church bulletins, ministry meetings, and group discussions. Keep these key elements in mind as you communicate about the change:

1. Keep your messages simple and jargon-free

2. Use metaphors and analogies to paint a vivid picture for members

3. Repeat, repeat, repeat – ideas only sink in after they’re heard many times

4. Explain people’s questions – if you don’t, it undermines credibility

5. Allow for constant feedback

Introduce the 2033 Vision

Every great movement begins with a clear and compelling vision. For us, that vision is rooted in Acts 2, a Spirit-empowered church marked by the unity, generosity, and bold witness.

Engage the Church Leadership

Once the vision is clear, the next step is to engage the hearts and minds of church leaders. Transformation begins when staff and lay leaders embrace the Acts 2 Movement not just as a program, but as a Spirit-led calling.

Sign the 2033 Declaration

With the vision embraced and leadership engaged, the next step is to make a public and spiritual commitment by signing the 2033 Declaration. By signing, your church affirms its dedication to the Acts 2 vision.

Conduct an Enlistment Campaign

After committing to the 2033 Declaration, it’s time to invite the whole congregation to join the journey. This helps your church community shift from being observers to active participants in God’s unfolding story of renewal and mission.

Gather Neighborhood Chaplains

As the church begins to mobilize, the next step is to identify, train, and commission individuals in your congregation who will intentionally connect with neighbors, offer prayer and care, and demonstrate Christ’s love through practical service.

Set Church/Member Goals for 2033

Next it’s time to look ahead and set clear, Spirit-led goals that align with the Acts 2 vision and the global 2033 timeline. Setting these goals isn’t about numbers alone. It’s about cultivating a shared expectation that God will work powerfully through your congregation.

Form an Evangelism Roundtable in Your Community

The Acts 2 Church was a witnessing church — bold, united, and outward-focused. Forming an Evangelism Roundtable brings that same spirit of collaboration to your local context.

Conduct Training

To sustain momentum and deepen impact, it’s essential to equip every believer for engagement in this movement. Through intentional training, you will help members grow in biblical understanding, spiritual maturity, and practical skills to share holistic Gospel witness.

Create a Pathway to 2033

Next it's vital to chart a clear course toward the milestone year of 2033. Develop a strategic, prayerful plan that outlines how your congregation will grow in faith, witness, service, and global connection over the coming years.

Celebrate Goals and Maintain Momentum

The final step in the journey is to celebrate the milestones your church has achieved while keeping the fire of the Acts 2 Movement alive. Recognizing accomplishments — both big and small — strengthens faith, builds unity, and inspires continued commitment to God’s mission.
